What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that involves the use of joint locks and chokes to make an opponent submit. 

When is "too late" to begin BJJ?

It is never "too late" to start BJJ. Here at Checkmat French Valley we have teammates from every age group training. We format our classes to make sure every person has an equally fun and productive experience.

When is "too young" to begin BJJ?

Here at Checkmat French Valley, we normally recommend that a child is at least 4 years old before starting BJJ.

What will I need to bring for my first class?

If you decide you would like to come in and try out BJJ you will only need to bring workout attire and an open mind. For your first class we will provide a loaner Gi.

What is a Gi?

A Gi is a standard BJJ uniform that will be worn in most classes here at Checkmat French Valley. It is an icon of the Jiu Jitsu Community and serves to distinguish every aspect of BJJ. They can be purchased in person at Checkmat French Valley.

Do you offer Private Training?
